Devlog: a company with no land
Ambitious bastards raise a banner and go looking for a place to found
Last week's post ended with the ambitious bastards. This is what they do.
A bastard with enough valour, calculation and leadership does not wait for a place at someone's table. He raises a company. His father pays to get it started, out of the House's real coffer, and from then on it is a House with no land and no king.
A company lives the way you do at the start of the game. It walks the map, hunts bandit gangs, takes on recruits and gathers what a village costs. When it has enough, it picks free ground and founds one, building it site by site like everyone else. On that day it becomes a landed House.
There are never many companies at once, but they are why the map gains new names over the years. The neighbour who appears to your east in the third winter may be someone you passed on the road in the first.
