Age of Medieval

Found a village. Lay it out street by street. Hold it.

A hero, four families and one wagon. The town you build is the town you defend, and when your lord dies, his heir inherits the village, the routes, the wars and the grudges.

The game

You arrive with no land and no king. The rest is what you put on the ground, and nobody waits for you: the other Houses build, trade, march and marry while your back is turned.

I Found

A hero, four families and one wagon

You start on a road with one wagon of timber, stone, food and tools, and you choose where your village goes. The square appears wherever you found it; your people eat, keep warm and wear what the village makes, and winter collects the difference.

  • You pick the ground: river, forest, stone or road
  • Three peoples, three ways to build

II Build

Street by street, house by house

A house only goes up beside a street, so the first thing you draw is a street out of the square. Then come the houses, the well, the woodcutter and the fields you drag out to the size the land allows. Where you put each thing matters, and the ghost tells you why before you click.

  • Fields, orchards and pastures from 2×2 to 6×6
  • Seven steps from hamlet to walled city

III Trade

Along the roads you paid for

No road, no trade. Build one to your neighbour, section by section, see the cost and the days before you pay, then open a route and let your merchant buy cheap and sell dear on his own. A village with no salt pays ten times what the city pays.

  • Eleven goods, wanted by real people
  • A trade deal cuts the tariff from 7% to 2%; an embargo shuts the stalls without a war

IV Fight

Up to 600 men, in real time

Twelve seconds to place your troops, then the enemy advances. Box-select, attack-move, queue orders with Shift, put a regiment in column to march or in a circle to hold off cavalry. A blow to the flank does more; to the rear, more still.

  • Hundreds on the field at once, the rest arriving in waves
  • A charge into spears that aren't braced throws the line back

V Siege

The town you build is the one you defend

The siege is fought inside the real town: the ram strikes the gate its lord put there, the engines breach the wall he raised, and the garrison answers from the towers he built. Your walls will be tested the same way.

  • Palisades drawn as a line; the gate goes where you want
  • Siege towers, trebuchets and rams

VI Rule the House

Your heir inherits it all

Marry into the House whose border you want, swear fealty to a king or claim a throne. Bring iron and charcoal to a smithy and put a weapon together piece by piece. Then die: the eldest adult son takes the House, then the spouse, then a younger relative.

  • War, peace and laws put to a vote at court
  • Companions with their own skills, wounds and gear

Three peoples, one crown

Three lands, three ways to build, dress and fight. The screenshots below are the game, in development.

The arms of Valan: a blue shield with a white tower

Valan

Timber and pale stone on the fertile plains

A Valani timber town, with the market square and its striped stalls

The Valani raise plank halls and palisades on the river plains, with wheat down to the bank. Steady spearmen and heavy cavalry under the white tower.

The arms of Corvus: a black shield with a white raven

Corvus

Dark stone and snow among the pines

The Corvine castle of the Northern Wall, in dark stone, with its keep and crossing streets

The Corvines live between stone and forest, in the north where the snow comes early. Granite towers, shield walls, axes and forest archers under the white raven.

The arms of Murth: a purple shield with a gold sun

Murth

Rammed earth and sun in the dry lands

A Murthan town of pale rammed earth, with courtyards, square towers and the adobe wall

The Murthans raise rammed-earth fortresses in the dry lands, where water is worth gold. Swift horsemen and desert archers under the gold sun.
