Take iron and charcoal to a smithy and you can build a weapon instead of buying one. The forge assembles it part by part: blade, guard, grip and pommel, chosen from 30 parts in 10 types.
Each part changes the numbers, and the preview shows the result before you pay. Swap an iron blade for a better one and the damage moves on screen.
Then you type a name. The sword goes into your hero's equipment and into the save file under that name, and it is worth more at a market than one bought off a stall.
Smithing is a skill: the more your hero forges, the better the work he can do. The second post this week covers refining and ordering a piece from another House's smith.
