Rotate, vary, demolish: the builder's small tools
The details that make a village look like yours
Most of what we have shown of the builder is the large gestures: drag a street, close a wall. The small tools are what make a village yours.
Pieces can be rotated before you place them, so a house faces the street you want it to face. Many pieces have variants, different looks for the same building, and you can step through them, which is why two streets of houses need not look like a row of stamps.
Demolishing is a tool like the others. A village that grows from hamlet to town outgrows its first layout: the storehouse that sat on the edge ends up in the middle of the market street. Take it down and build again.
The ghost tells you what the ground allows before you click. Green goes ahead. Red has a reason, and the commonest are that there is no street beside it or that there is water under it. Nothing is built on a river.
