What your towers do when the ram arrives

Towers shoot, the wall-walk gives cover, and there is oil over the gate

The pieces in the Defence category of the build palette are not decoration with a number attached. Each one does something in the assault.

Towers shoot. Anything that comes within reach, a ram, a mantlet, the men behind it, takes arrows from the towers the lord placed. Where you put them decides what they cover.

The wall-walk gives cover. Defenders standing on it are harder to hit than men in the open, which is why a siege tower, which puts attackers up there with them, is worth its timber.

The gate has oil. A crew that leans a ram on your gate pays for every blow. None of this makes a village safe, but it is the reason an attacker needs to outnumber you to come in by the front.
