What watching new players taught us
They got lost in the same places, so we fixed the places
You stop seeing your own game after a while. The cure is to watch someone who has never played it, and say nothing.
We did that with the first half hour, and people got lost in the same three places. They did not know what to click next. They looked for the Build button where they were standing, not where we had put it. And a battle that started near midnight skipped its own tutorial.
So the game changed. A golden frame now marks the next click. The Build button lives in the village bar. The battle tutorial runs whatever the hour. When the village headman asks for a building and timber is short, the card says where the rest comes from.
None of that is a new feature, and all of it mattered more than one. We will keep doing this until launch.
