How the game sounds, and how we level it
Twelve music tracks, one loudness target, every source credited
Sound is the part of a game you notice most when it is wrong. A menu theme twice as loud as the map music, a battle that clips, an effect that fires forty times in a second.
Our rules are simple. The game has twelve music tracks, for the menu, the map and the battle, and every one is levelled to the same loudness target, so the volume you set once stays right. A limiter sits on the master so nothing clips when a lot happens at once. Each kind of sound has a cap on how many copies can play together.
The battle mix is the part we have reworked the most, and the part we will keep listening to until launch.
Every sound and track in the game comes from a source whose licence we have read, and each is credited. For a studio that does not have a composer on staff, being careful there is part of the job.
