A save has to load into the same world
How we test saving in a simulation that never sits still
Saving a game sounds like the easy part. In a world where every village, caravan, building site and grudge keeps changing, it is one of the hardest.
The danger is the quiet kind. A save that loads without an error but forgets one small thing, a half-built wall or a caravan's next stop, produces a world that drifts away from the one you left. You would notice a day later and never know why.
So we have a probe for it. It plays, saves, loads, and compares the world before and after, then lets both run on for a day and compares again. Any difference is a failure.
It has caught real bugs. One was a cached road length that was not rebuilt on load, so a caravan took a different time to arrive after loading. Nobody would have reported that. The probe did.
